L’inférence et la modalisation sont deux concepts essentiels pour la construction du sens. Le premier, concept de la pragmatique cognitive, consiste à une déduction basée sur les informations linguistiques et extralinguistiques nécessitant pour leur production des connaissances antérieures. Quant au deuxième concept, il désigne les mécanismes par lesquels un sujet se qualifie ou se positionne dans une situation donnée. Dans la présente étude, nous mettrons le point sur les modalisations et les inférences qui ont esquissé l’image du stade liminal de Zayniba. Il s’agit de voir comment Edmond Amran El Maleh avait présenté le personnage de Zayniba, par quelles modalisations procède-t-il pour inciter le lecteur à inférer la représentation de la réalité marginale de Zahra.
