لقد تمثلت الأنوار ذاتها كتربية شمولية للجنس البشري، أو بمعنى أدق كإعادة تربية وفق منظور جديد يضعه العقل البشري من ذاته. ففكر الأنوار يضع ثقة مطلقة في الفرد، لما لا والتربية الأنوارية لا تنعزل عن فكرة الاستقلال الذاتي للفرد، وقدرته على استخدام العقل دون وصاية أحد، وبالتالي قيادة ذاته والطبيعة معا. فالتربية هي وصف لعملية التقدم التي تحدد مسار الجنس البشري، والإنسانية تكتشف ذاتها من داخلها، فالمنهج باطني، والموضوع داخلي، والغاية تنبثق من أعماق الشعور الإنساني، وتتحقق في صورة تقدم نحو الأمام. إن التربية بمعناها الأنواري إذن، تعني القابلية للاكتمال، وقابلية الفرد للاكتمال باعتباره موضوع للتربية الأنوارية، سينعكس على المجتمع، فيصير هذا الأخير قابلا للاكتمال أيضا، أو بالأحرى يسير نحو الحسن والأفضل.
