يروم هذا المقال مقاربة الثقافة من منظور سيميائي ينظر إليها بوصفها نسقاً دلالياً مركباً تنتظم داخله العلامات والرموز والخطابات التي تؤطر الممارسات الاجتماعية وتمنحها معانيها داخل المجتمع. تنطلق الدراسة من فرضية مفادها أن الثقافة لا يمكن فهمها من مظاهرها السطحية فقط، بل من خلال تحليل بنياتها الرمزية وآليات إنتاج الدلالة التي تحكم تشكلها وتداولها في السياق الاجتماعي والتاريخي. وتتمحور إشكالية المقال حول الكيفية التي تسمح بها السيميائيات الثقافية بقراءة الثقافة بوصفها نصاً مفتوحاً قابلاً للتأويل، وذلك بهدف إبراز الدور الذي تضطلع به المقاربة السيميائية في الانتقال من مستوى الوصف الخارجي للظواهر الثقافية إلى مستوى تحليل بنياتها العميقة، بتفكيك الشبكات الدلالية التي تتقاطع داخلها الرموز والصور والطقوس.
