A travers cet article mon objectif est de proposer une analyse empirique de l’alternance codique dans le contexte sociolinguistique du Nouveau-Brunswick, en mettant l’accent sur le chiac. À partir d’une approche interdisciplinaire mobilisant la sociolinguistique interactionnelle, l’analyse du discours et la sociologie du langage, l’étude examine les structures linguistiques, les fonctions sociales et les enjeux identitaires de cette pratique. Les résultats montrent que l’alternance codique constitue une compétence linguistique complexe, régie par des contraintes structurelles, et une ressource symbolique centrale dans la construction identitaire en contexte de bilinguisme asymétrique.
